In
our discussions on how to best develop and encourage young players to
enjoy the game and develop skills, we’ve debated over how to best
give novice players the benefit of quality coaching without the drawbacks of excessive
travel and an unhealthy focus on winning at an early age. Our conversations
have led us to the creation of a Princeton Sports Center's Mite Development Program...
This new program for mite players offers
professional coaching, 4 on-ice events per week, and a 3:1 ratio of practices to games.
The program will include the following:
- Monday evening Hockey Academy clinics (1 hour)
- Friday evening Hockey Academy clinics (1.5 hours)
- Participation in the Central Jersey Town Hockey League (Sept. - April)
- Practice every Saturday (1 hour)
- 3 on 3 games every Sunday (1 hour)
- 10 Free Sticktime passes to be used through the year
- 20 Free Public Skating passes to be used through the year
This schedule offers 4.5 hours of ice-time each week and maintains the USA Hockey recommended 3:1 practice to game ratio for the development of young hockey players. In addition, Princeton Sports Center's Director of Hockey, Ted Annis, will oversee the development of each player over the course of the season. Players are able to move up to more advanced classes and even play games against older players as their level of play improves through the year.
The tuition will be $1995, which includes registration in all of the above programs throughout the 2006-2007 season.
Some important points to keep in mind:
• Quality coaching and serious skills development.
• Time and money invested in the players spending time on the ice
at practice instead of a focus on games.
• More family time.
• A focus on participation, fun and development...NOT on winning
hockey games.
