Princeton Sports Center Skating Academy

The Princeton Sports Center Skating Academy is dedicated to providing the highest quality instruction to your child. Our goal is for every skater to learn each level by encouraging them to work hard and have fun. Our professional staff works to assure each child masters the skills taught. Your young skater will be treated with special care to create a positive and exciting experience.

Fall 1 Session: August 5th - September 30th, 2008 - now enrolling!

Enrollment includes:

• Skate rental for entire session.
• 4 FREE public skating admissions for the student, and 2 FREE public skating guest passes (includes skate rental, expires September 30st).
• On-ice evaluation - All students will be evaluated on the 8th or 9th class. Please make every effort to attend that class. Progress reports will be given at that time.
Additional family members receive a 10% discount off of the same session skating academy class. This discount may not be applied with any other promotional offer or discount.

FREE SKATING ACADEMY designated practice sessions:

Tuesday classes practice - Tues. 5:15-5:45 pm
Thursday classes practice - Thurs. 5:45-6:15 pm
Saturday classes practice - Sat. 10:30-11:00 am


NO INSTRUCTION DURING PRACTICE SESSIONS. Parents/siblings may skate during practice sessions for $5 admission, including skate rental.


Tuesday classes are 9 week sessions
Thursday & Saturday classes are 8 week sessions

A late fee of $25 applies for registrations received less than one week prior to the first class

All students MUST have a current ISI membership
Membership includes:
-Ice Skating Institute magazine subscription.
-Supplemental accident insurance.

Class Descriptions:

Pre-K and Kindergarten Classes
Parent/Me - Designed for young children who need the security of a parent close by. Both parent and child participate in the on-ice lesson where basic skills are taught.
Tot 1 - For children who have never been on the ice or had any formal lessons. Basic skating methods, marching, gliding, dips, swizzles, wiggles and the proper way to fall and get up are taught through positive reinforcement.
Tot 2 - For children who have passed Tot 1. Introduction to snowplow stops, 1-foot glides, backwards wiggles and backward swizzles. Skills taught through games and positive reinforcement.

 

Youth Classes
Pre-Alpha - For skaters 6 years and older who have never skated. Emphasis on feeling comfortable on the ice and gaining balance and control. Introduction to stopping, 1 and 2 foot glides, forward swizzles, backward swizzles and wiggles.
Pre-Alpha Advanced - For for students needing an intermediate class between pre-alpha & alpha.
Alpha - For skaters who have passed Pre-Alpha or who have similar skating skills. Correct method of stroking, forward crossovers in both directions and 1-foot snowplow stops will be taught.
Beta - For skaters who have passed Alpha. Back stroking, backward crossovers(left & right) and T-stops (left & right).
Gamma - For skaters who have passed Beta. Outside 3-turns (left and right), mohawk combinations & hockey stops.
Delta - For skaters who have passed Gamma. Forward inside 3-turns, forward outside & inside edges, shoot the duck, bunny hop.
Freestyle - Edges, spirals, spins, jumps and footwork for Freestyle 1&2 / 3&4.

 

Adult Classes
Adult 1 - For beginners and those with some skating experience. Stroking, forward crossovers in both directions. 1-foot snowplow stops, spirals, tap toe jumps, backward skating, backward crossovers in both directions and T-stops emphasized.
Adult 2 - Forward outside 3-turns (left & right), forward inside open Mohawk combinations (left & right), hockey stops in both directions, shoot-the-duck, forward inside 3-turns (left & right), lunges, bunny hop and forward edges (inside & outside).
Adult Freestyle - Forward inside pivots, 2-foot spin, forward spiral, backward edges (in & out), 1/2 flip, waltz jump, ballet jump, 1/2 toe wally, half lutz, and 1-foot spin.

• All classes limited to 12-14 skaters.
• Helmets required for Tot 1 through Beta (bicycle helmet is fine).
• All students required to purchase ISI membership.
• Additional classes may be added based on enrollment.

• Badges not included. They may be purchased for $4 upon completion of class

NO MAKEUP CLASSES. NO REFUNDS.

Equipment & Dress: Skates should fit firm around the ankle, allow toes to wiggle a bit. Wear thin socks or tights. Choose a skate that is 1/2 to 1 size smaller than the child’s street shoe. Clothing should be warm and comfortable. Dressing in layers is preferable to bulky coats & snow pants. Children must wear gloves.
